Sherwood Shire, established in 1879, covered a significant area to Brisbane's southwest, including suburbs like Corinda, Graceville, and Chelmer. Named after a prominent early landholder, Sherwood's history is defined by its agricultural beginnings, particularly dairy farming, and its subsequent transformation into a desirable residential area. The Brisbane River formed a natural boundary for much of the shire, and its scenic qualities contributed to its appeal as a place to live.
