Yeerongpilly Shire (part of…)

Map of Yeerongpilly Division and adjacent local government areas, March 1902, Queensland Survey Office - Queensland, illustrating Local Authorities Districts, Queensland.

Yeerongpilly Shire existed from 1879 to 1925, primarily encompassing the southern suburbs of Brisbane. Its name, derived from an Aboriginal word, points to its early indigenous heritage. Originally a largely rural area with farming and dairying, Yeerongpilly gradually saw the development of residential areas, particularly with the expansion of the railway line. Its history is intertwined with the growth of suburbs like Annerley, Yeronga, and Fairfield, and it eventually became a key part of the larger City of Greater Brisbane.
