Tingalpa Shire (part of…)

Map of Tingalpa Shire and adjacent local government areas, March 1902, Queensland Survey Office Local Authorities Districts, Queensland.

Located to Brisbane's east, Tingalpa Shire was established in 1879 and dissolved in 1925. This vast shire stretched from the Brisbane River to the coast, encompassing areas that are now Bayside suburbs like Wynnum and Manly, as well as more rural districts. Tingalpa's history is marked by its agricultural pursuits, timber getting, and the eventual rise of seaside resorts. The development of its coastal areas as popular holiday destinations was a significant aspect of its growth before its absorption into the City of Brisbane.
