Coorparoo Shire, a vibrant and rapidly developing area, was established in 1888 and dissolved in 1925. Its name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word relating to a type of pigeon or a place where pigeons gathered. Coorparoo's history is marked by its transformation from a semi-rural area with market gardens and dairies into a thriving residential suburb with its own commercial centre. Its convenient location close to the city contributed to its rapid growth.
