Sandgate Town

Queensland. Survey Branch. (1882). Plan of the town of Sandgate, Parish of Nundah, County of Stanley, Queensland. Survey Branch, Lands Dept.

Sandgate, a prominent bayside locality, became a separate town in 1880, having previously been part of the Toombul Division. Its name reflects its sandy beaches. Sandgate's history is deeply rooted in its status as a popular Victorian-era seaside resort, attracting Brisbanites seeking respite from the summer heat. The construction of the railway line to Sandgate in 1882 further solidified its reputation as a premier holiday destination and residential area.
